EXCITEMENT BEHIND THE SCENES:
GETTING READY FOR THE KILI CHALLENGE…

Did you know that a total of 26 enthusiasts from 5 different countries are currently giving their all to prepare for their climb up Mount Kilimanjaro from 23 July –1 August 2004 and to raise money for the project?

Most of the climbers were able to get together in June for a weekend of fun, training and relationship building in the Peak District. Thanks to the brilliant organisation of Saltmine Trust, who are handling the practical details of the trip for us, the weekend was a great success. The group bonded extremely well and all of them are looking forward to spending more time together as they work their way up towards the summit of Kilimanjaro. In the meantime, they continue to support each other by meeting up in small groups to do more fitness training, share tips about travel, visas and medication, as well as about the latest bargains in outdoor clothing and equipment such as –10° C sleeping bags and backpacks!

But preparing for Kili is not just about fitness training! In addition to walking, climbing and running on average 3 times a week to get fit enough for their climb of a lifetime, the Kili enthusiasts are continuing to identify new and exciting ways of raising awareness about and funds for the Tigers Club Project. Indoor video shows, pub nights, football matches, newspaper articles, tea parties and many other events and initiatives have been organised to raise money for Tigers. The amount of letters sent out by the climbers must be breaking post office records as well, and one of the participants even built a mini land-rover which will be auctioned at the Festival of Wood in Arboretum, Gloucestershire, during the August bank holiday!

Keep checking this page, as we will be regularly adding news from the climbers---and then
