Lets start todays update by thanking YOU, our faithful visitors to this site, for all your wonderful messages of encouragement to the climbers. As you can see, our brand-new Kili message board is already overflowing, and we have done our very best to forward your greetings to the Kili bunch (hopefully they did not get lost in cyberspace between the United Kingdom and Africas highest mountain)
So three cheers to you, too, and do keep praying and writing to the climbers
You are very much part of their hike!

Today was actually intended to be a day of rest
much needed after four days of the type of physical exercise which most of us would not even achieve in a whole month (or am I speaking for myself here????). However, because our super troopers have struggled a bit to get used to the high altitude, the leaders decided to break up tomorrows itinerary and spread it over two days. Our guess is that the climbers would have done about 4 hours of walking today, which would have taken them across the floor of the Great Barranco Valley, and then up a steep path towards the Barranco Wall. If they got this far today, they would have been gripped by a feeling of expansiveness on top of this mountain before making their way down towards Karanga Valley and the Karanga River
but then again, maybe this sensation is awaiting them only tomorrow
The team would then have spent the remainder of the day resting, sharing fellowship, talking about the Tigers boys and encouraging each other. From the few messages we have had in the last few days, there is a real sense of group bonding and of lifelong friendships being built, which is just wonderful. The way our climbers are sticking together is very similar to the daily interaction of the street children whom they are helping: the Tigers boys do tend to look out for each other, protect each other and huddle together when it gets cold or when they feel insecure
In short, an inspiring level of solidarity and community which, I think, we can all be inspired by
..
..so roar on, climbers, and roar on, Tigers. We love you all! |
